So this story just got me thinking about the current state of paranoia in both our politicians and the public
We have a huge version of the LED figure right by our house in NOHO, and I recognized it right away...apparently this is a generational thing as older police and politicos had absolutely no idea what it was and FREAKED...

I think it's more an indictment of our inability to distinguish fantasy from reality. In the movies, bank robbers wear Richard Nixon masks or clown suits; in reality, they wear stockings or ski masks. Perhaps in the movies a sinister villain would decorate a bomb with an angry-looking Lite-Brite cartoon, but here in the real world, bombs tend to be disguised in ways that actually keep people from noticing them.
